The Soulbreaker Company presents "Sins," their new album recorded at the iconic Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago. Comprising 11 songs, this work consolidates the band's sonic evolution. After a period of reflection—partly forced, partly planned—that came with the eight-year hiatus since their last release, they traveled to the heart of the American independent music scene with the clear objective of capturing a direct and honest sound.
The choice of studio was no accident. Electrical Audio was the hub of operations and legacy of Steve Albini, a pivotal figure in alternative rock and raw, organic sound engineering. The band went to record just a few months after Albini's passing, which adds a symbolic weight and a deep respect for the studio's methodology, a commitment to the band's performance and real dynamics in the studio.
"Sins" reflects a stage of artistic maturity where the songs combine intensity and depth. The album alternates between raw and energetic moments, driven by powerful guitars and drums, enveloping passages led by keyboards that enrich and envelop atmospheric yet concise developments, pauses for reflection, and bursts of vitality, all crowned by a nuanced vocal performance with lyrics that reveal scars, but also drive and nonconformity.
The musical influences are broad yet subtle, ranging from classic rock with psychedelic roots to eighties sounds, mainly emanating from the keyboards, passing through relaxed folk, and plenty of deep-seated nineties rock.
